Hi LD and Everyone - As you might imagine, I discovered TEAL Campers yesterday (5/18) and now that I have one night of dreaming about things, I offer the following suggestions or ideas.
1. The question of what kind of top should/could be used sparked this: in regard to the complexities of adding an extension panel for a 10 foot roof, why not limit roof length to 8 feet? If the front 2 ft. of a ten footer was 5 ft. in height, would that be undesirable? This idea greatly simplifies a few of the questions raised previously EXCEPT what would cover the remaining 2 ft. in question? 2. For my part, I'd prefer, I think, a hard top with fabric sides. 3. The question of where to mount an AC window unit scrambled the dream, until it occurred to me that a special side or front panel could be designed with, instead of a window, nominal opening reinforced (with an aluminum perimeter, or wood?) to mount the physically smallest, Home Depot like, AC unit available. Then the user could fabricate (from a Teal generated plan) a welded angle iron bracket that would support the unit weight from the back side. This bracket could bolt to the top rail of the utility trailer's side or front. Of course, it would have to be shaped to clear the panel as it bulges outward. I suppose the cost would be high for this special panel as it would surely require another mold, but for those of us here in the South (Louisiana) it would be worth it. Could or should this be done is a big question for LD. 4. The pictures of the prototype being cranked onto LD's trailer led me to wonder if the camper could be permanently mounted on it's own plywood floor with 2x4 skids on the bottom to facilitate winching as seen in the two pictures. Since the assembled camper seems like it might be top heavy compared to a short sided utility trailer, would adding 2 inches of height make the situation worse? That's as far as the dreams went but when I unscramble more you'll know. Do any of you guys actually own a TEAL yet? Cheers, Tnscoots |

1) Perhaps one could have a transparent roof versus a solid roof? With a transparent roof, one could watch the stars at night.
2) I agree with the 'hard top with fabric sides'. The fabric sides would make it easier to raise and lower since they are flexible. 3) Perhaps instead of an AC unit, perhaps a way to have a window fan or a ceiling fan to vent the hot air? 4) Perhaps slots with cylinder rollers that could make 'sliding' the camper in or out easier? I don't own one but I think it is a future possibility. |
