Can the roof support a solar panel? The newer ones are lighter in weight and produce more electricity; from what I have read.

There should be no problem with a roof mounted solar panel as far as support. The challenge may be in the actual mounting and preventing any leaking at the support points.

Perhaps a roof rack similar to what could be used on the car but on the camper? Like the one for a car, it would have clamps and would not require drilling? (just thinking out loud). Smiler

Cool I know one camper has flexible solar panels http://www.safaricondo.com/alt...cess/solarpanels.php No idea how much juice that provides though. Might be a way to go for those that don't need a super lot. I like that this camper has not just an A/C but a heat sink too. Slick to have it combined in one like that, although it needs to be plugged in for that part I guess. A fan heater combo thing would take less energy though and might run just on solar. A swamp cooler or ice evaporating air cooler might.

Hubby brought up a good point, a panel on the roof would most likely not by pointed or positioned in the ideal way for your location. Who wants to consider that when parking? It would be better to have the panel on a separate wedge and travel with it inside and take it out and set it up when you get there at the ideal angle and direction to the sun.

I think that is a good idea.

Perhaps if the roof mounted solar panel could be tilted and rotated when the camper is in one place and laid flat when the camper is moving? (just thinking out loud). Smiler
