I have had a number of inquiries concerning the compatibility of the Teal Camper with the Smart Car. From what little research I have done, it appears the Smart Car towing capacity is 726 lbs and a tongue weight not to exceed 66 lbs. (International testing company TUV Product Service).

Using a lightweight 4'x 8' utility trailer, a model P48 Teal Camper should just make it under that limit. It would be equipped with the dinette/bed set and the wall and sink cabinets. That is empty weight so adding camping supplies would likely put it over the limit. Lighter furnishings could be built if necessary.

An alternative would be to shorten the camper to 6'. That could reduce the weight by almost 200 pounds when you factor in a lighter trailer, but would eliminate the cabinets.

The 4' x 8' shell with a popup top weighs in at about 275 pounds. I have no doubt that Smart Car enthusiasts could come up with a trailer and interior combination that would fall within the towing capacity requirements with room for luggage and camping equipment.

Thank you for the information. Since the Teal camper is customizable, I thought one could make it lite weight so it could be pulled by a Smart.
